Event Venue

Meetings will be held at the new NSF Headquarters in Alexandria, directly across from the Eisenhower Metro station, which is three stations south of the DCA Reagan Airport stop on the Yellow line toward Huntington.

You will need a REALID-compliant photo ID (driver’s license or passport) to pass through visitor security (enter the building and turn right) and pick up the badge that will be waiting for you, based on your registration information. Please allow 15-20 minutes of extra time for this, since this is a busy time for panels. Further detail on visiting NSF can be found here.

Expect airport-level security and come prepared to show valid federal identification. You do not need to take your shoes off, but any type of metal on you (shoes, belts, watches, jewelry) will cause delays and possible secondary (pat-down) screening. On Day 1, please try to come in between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. to avoid security screening crowds. On Day 2, if your appointment is before 9:30 a.m., come in at least 45 minutes prior to NSF to get through security – do not forget to bring your badge from the prior day.  Later appointments should come in 30 minutes prior.

Travel Support

We anticipate to be able to offer travel support to 30 junior faculty from HBCU/MEI institutions, and if additional funds are available, we will consider faculty from other under-represented groups. The selection process will be first-come/first-served, with preferences given to HBCU/MEI, to a limit of two per organization. Those selected to receive travel support funds will be notified by the organizers on March 12, 2018.

Travel Suggestions

Attendees are expected to make their own travel and lodging arrangements to 2415 Eisenhower Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22314.

For those flying, DCA Reagan airport is very convenient by yellow-line metro.  IAD Dulles airport is a half hour by car, or an hour and 10 min by 5A bus to yellow, or an hour and a half by silver line express to silver line to yellow.

Pay parking is available in the Eisenhower metro lot, and in the AMC Hoffman Center behind NSF.

The following are the hotels nearest NSF, with Google rating and comment.  (We do not have a block of rooms, but you may want to ask if they can give you an NSF rate.)  You may also want to check airBnB.  Old-town Alexandria also has many places (and a free shuttle to King Street metro).  Rates decrease as you go further south.
